I'm getting an SR20DET put in my lil' 240SX.
i've ordered the entire front clip, so i get the sr's ecu, tranny, etc.
would it behoove me to piece together products like XFC and others or get a entire stand alone for my tuning...
how do I decide?
(this will be a daily street driven car, not for the track) |

It depends on what you are doing. The XFC will allow you to keep the stock electronics with the engine and quickly retune them. Generally a standalone will cost more, present more difficulty but will also give you greater flexibility. Since you have the stock ECU, you could go either way. If you are going to keep the engine stock or make minor modifications to the engine, I would recommend a piggyback solution like the XFC because it will be simpler and quicker than a standalone unit. Most modified street cars fit into this category and so, based on your description I believe the XFC will be a simpler and less costly alternative to a standalone ECU.
If you are going to beef up the pistons, rods, change the head gasket, go with a larger turbo, or generally make major modifications to the engine, I would recommend a standalone ECU because your new engine parameters will not be similar to what the stock ECU expects. _________________ James Ballenger

| I will be the one installing the XFC onto the SR20DET. I am here to ask various questions because I have never worked with this device. Will I be able to use the stock SR airflow meter with this? |

Your stock MAF should be an analog 0-5v output sensor which our XFC can handle and manipulate. The only issue that you may run into is when and/or if you exceed the airflow that your stock MAF is capable of. If you do exceed the stock MAF airflow capability, then you will need to upgrade your MAF to a larger MAF that can handle more airflow. _________________ James Ballenger

| I will be upgrading to the 300ZX Airflow meter. The car will be put back together shortly and I look forward to learning more about the XFC. |
