I have an FTO with the 6a12 engine and the INVECS 11 tiptronic box. I have been looking for some time for ways to better control the box, anfter all I reasoned that if my cheapo printer continually gets software updates, why not my gearbox?

Really excited about finding the PCS site and want to know if the TCU will work with my tranny and allow me to to decent starts on the 1/4 mile.

If it does, woo-hoo and I am sure a few others from the British FTO Owners Club will be along very soon!

I don't have a good way to look up some international application vehicles, do you know what transmissions were available and which ones you would like to control? Are there any US equivalent transmissions?

From a quick look at the specifications of the car I speculate that it may use the same 4 speed automatic that was used in the US Eclipse. The fwd version is referred to as the F4A33 and the all wheel drive version is the W4A33. Hyundai and dodge uses some of these transmissions and we are able to control the F4A22 as well (fwd, slightly lower torque handling capacity as compared to the F4A33). A quick search shows me that your FTO may be using an F4A42 transmission which we have not yet done but poses no implementation problems as its controls are nearly identical to the F4A33 & F4a22 listed above.

Thanks James for that quick reply. I will have a look to see what the actual gearbox is. I know it's the same as the Galant one but dont know if that was sold in the States.

The UK club has a few very interested members at present. With the current exchange rate its a whole load better value than a manual conversion.

We do have a US Galant and it uses the F4A22, F4A23 transmission that I mentioned. If you can verify this, we have existing controls developed for this transmission.

Hi James, it does indeed look like we have the F4A42 box in our cars, F5 for the five speed facelifts models.

Now for the big question. Can the TCU assist with standing starts for the quarter mile as the manual boys are canning us due to being able to launch quicker. I know we will be lmited by the Torque Convertors stall speed but can the TCU at least help a bit?

Cheers,

Bill

Hello...Another UK FTO owner. Saw Storm's post on out forums regarding the TCU and was interested...I am hoping this will work well.

Couple of questions, from your description the TCU is literally "plug n play" so if a wiring harness is bought it is a simple job to install? I plan in the very near future in adding a turbo to my FTO so need something to keep an eye on my tip box, my plan is to have the TCU linked up to my carputer to monitor temps etc presume all (or majority) of the sensors can be obtained through the TCU?

Cheers.

Whether the harness is completely "plug n play" depends upon the application. For some Japanese applications we use the header from the stock TCM as a part of our harness. This makes installation a simple plug n play arrangement.

For most american & european installations, we offer a harness that plugs directly into the transmission. At that point the installer needs to provide switched power, ground and a load signal (usually TPS).

For this particular installation, I would need to see several pictures of the stock TCM connector from both the harness side and stock TCM side. I may be able to offer a plug n play version if I can find the appropriate connector for our harness. Otherwise, you would need to do a significant amount of wiring work. The TCU has software that can monitor most of the information from your car and it's datalogging/monitor screen interface is very complete so this may work for an in-car monitoring system.
