The Range sensor is on the shifter in the console. Not on the transmission. What is the shifter you are using out of? I don't know if they are all the same or not. Look at the wiring harness diagram for the 722.6 in our downloads section and see if its the same as what you have.

Russ,
I took a look at the diagram. If I order the transmission controller for this transmission does it include a prespliced harness that goes from your PCS controller to the connector on the transmission? As stated earlier you said your kit comes with the connector the plugs to the transmission. Just not the range and ECU. |

Our harness comes exactly like it is on the drawing. The wiring is complete from the transmission and shifter to our controller. You are required to connect the unterminated wires on the drawing to your vehicle and ECU. Of course assuming your shifter has the same range sensor plug on it.

| Russ which range sensor plug are you using? Or I should say which vehicle did you base it off from? So I can order that same range sensor. Thanks |

I've looked through all our documentation and schematics and I can't figure out what the connector came off of. I will try contacting the dealer that sent them to us and see if he remembers

Russ, any luck with the dealer? Any one out there installed a TCU with their 722.6 trans?
Thanks |

| Russ wrote: | Sorry, I missed your last question there. Its almost impossible to make it a 100% plug and play setup. You have to tap into throttle position, engine rpm, brake light, power and ground. The connections to the transmission are provided on our harness. Getting the range connector for the shifter your usng is the tough part. You most likely have to go to the dealer to get the connectors.

I believe I spoke to you or one of your employees recently. Right now I am considering this controller for an MB 560SL which uses a 1996 SL600 powertrain. In reading the documentation and reviewing the wiring diagrams it does appear to be a solution I can purchase the shifter harness for my application, 1996 SL600, from MB for $69.00 P/N A129 540 88 34.
While I find it will work it requires additional hardware or excess tapping into harnesses. To make this a close to plug and play solution really requires Wheel speed and TPS to become available over the CAN. That is where the OE controller gets its information. That would be the minimum required to get this trans to work without additional wiring and/or sensors.
Engine RPM and Load would also be highly desirable to come over the CAN but are not all out requirements for performance based shifting.
N2 (first stage sun) and N3 (first stage carrier) are available directly so an input speed can be derived.
I now see that you have made gear range recognition available over the CAN with your latest software release. To me that means you guys do have the ability to disassemble the CAN and use the CAN data for any input. Do you see at minimum TPS and Wheel Speed becoming available over the CAN in a future software drop? Can you give us a release schedule.

John,
It is possible for us to setup the controller to receive VSS and TPS over CAN if someone has access to the factory CAN message structure. It looks like we are going to be discontinuing support for the 722.6 transmission until we have some dealers capable of tuning it. The technical support for this tranmission and a few others is costing us too much time.

The structure is known and documented. The identifiers and bit streams are not published. However if someone can get me the CAN trace on a scope or better yet digitally I do believe I can crack this code at least for TPS and wheel speed. Does anyone know how to do this?

Oh no! Please tell me this isn't so. I've only just discovered this as the perfect solution to my gearbox dilemma and now you break this to me! |
