with the speed sensor input, im running standard GM magnetic ABS sensor,

do i hook 5v to one side and then the input to the logger on the other or do i hook earth and the input up

Dale,
If the sensor is still connected to the ABS, just connect the input up to one side and let the ABS module ground the other side. If the sensor is not connected to anything then connect Sensor Ground (Black/White) to one side and the speed input to the other side.
