|
|
I've searched without much success for some information on using a PCS controller with a 4R100 in an '00 F250 Super Duty with a diesel engine (currently a Powerstroke, soon to be Cummins w/mechanical pump). Is this possible and does the PCS have any problems reading the digital signal with or without a splitter? Will the $700 controller and $150 harness be all that's required to properly control my transmission?
Thanks for any and all replies. |

The 4R100 is a common application for our TCU. We offer a harness that plugs directly into the transmission solenoid pack, range connector and speed sensors. We receive all of the required signals we need from that harness and no splitters or additional logic is required with one exception.
That exception is that our TCU should be fed a load signal. Usually this is a throttle position sensor (TPS) signal or an accelerator pedal position Sensor (APPS). If you can tap into either of these, this will satisfy the required load signal for your application. On some diesel applications that are mechanical, customers fit a TPS on the mechanical injection pump or at the Accelerator Pedal. We do offer a TPS adaptor kit ( http://www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=45 ) which is primarily intended for use with a carburetor though some diesel customers do use this kit. A MAP or MAF sensor can be used for some applications as the load signal but generally we recommend using a TPS.
The only other required inputs the TCU needs are switched power and ground. The price is $700 for the TCU and $150 for a plug-in harness for your transmission.
I'm not sure which digital signal you are referring to with regard to the splitter/non-splitter issue but this is a common application and there should not be any outstanding issues. _________________ James Ballenger

| Is a stock transmission shift profile, or something similar available as a baseline starting point, or would I have have to start from scratch and build my own shift strategy? Sometime over the weekend I would like to review the software, which seems very capable of performing the changes necessary to the shift profile. I would like to try this controller with my current Powerstroke engine and work the bugs out and then swap my engine for a Cummins with a mechanical pump. It's nice to see your product can/will work with both setups. Are the units and harnesses kept in stock, or will this be a special order process? |

We do offer a "stock" transmission shift profile. However, this default profile is from a specific application and may not be appropriate for yours. Our 4R100 default tune is from an F150 gas application if I remember correctly so you will need to make changes. Unfortunately there are thousands of variations for most transmission applications so offering a tune for each vehicle would limit our ability to offer a universal control system.
Definately check out the software, work with it a little and get familiar with it, this will help greatly when it comes time to tune your application. The controls offer a vast array of configurations and you do not necessarily need to change all of the parameters. When you get into the software you would need to enter the appropriate tire diameter and final drive ratio in the transmission setup section and then move onto tuning line pressure, shift points & tcc lockup points in the calibration section.
We keep these harnesses in stock and the controller in stock so you can order online or call up to order when you are ready to go. _________________ James Ballenger

Will the same crontroller for the 4R100 work with an E4OD? I am installing a 24V (electronic) Cummins into a 1997 F-350 that currently has a 7.3/E4OD. Using a TPS wire, like mentioned above, will be easy since the 24V Cummins uses an APPS.
Thanks! |

Our controller will work with the E4OD also. The only problem with the E4OD is that the speed sensor is not built into the transmission. It requires wiring into the speed sensor located on the differential.
