I see you have this transmission listed as compatible on the transmission controller product page. Is it plug-and-play, or is it more involved?

I'm interested in using this in a BMW 330i, so I would guess there's a lot involved, being that it uses a CAN bus to talk to the DME.

This transmission would definately fall under the "more involved" category as this is more difficult to control than most 4 speed automatic transmissions of the 1990s. This transmission requires slightly more advanced controls and tuning in general would require more effort from the installer/tuner than most other applications. For these reasons I would only recommend this application for professional shops or customers with a good level of knowledge and interest in learning.

We have a CAN bus structure implemented but it would not be compatible with your BMW. The input/output structure can be obtained directly through the harness to the transmission. The only additional inputs would be a throttle position sensor, switched power and ground. RPM and MAF/MAP may be helpful but are not required. As far as I'm aware the electronic module on your BMW should be externally controlling solenoids that are internal to the transmission (as oppossed to some newer designs which have the controller built directly on the valvebody).
