|

Hi, I got this link from one of our LX forum members ( http://www.lxforums.com/index.php? ) and want to let you know that there are A LOT of guys looking for a product such as this. So far we have very minimal control over the tranny computer (TCM) and only a couple options to firm up shifts/raise shift points etc. None of which allow any customization.
Our number one problem is shift firmness....current TCMs will only offer slightly firmed up shifts at WOT. We really need something that will allow us to bang those gears at the track.
Please let us know how the testing is going and what we can expect.
Thanks,
Chris |

Chris,
Our controller has been woking on the 722.6 for some time now. However keep in mind our controller is a stand-alone system. We don't communicate with your factory systems like your current TCM does. Also, changing the shift firmness on the 722.6 at wot most likely will require a vlave body modification. I would only recommend our controller on a vehicle like yours if you have changed the ECM to a standalone system. |

| Russ how come changing the shift firmness at WOT requires a valve body mod? I thought the point of electronically controlled transmissions is the ability to control all this. Can't the line pressure be increased via the calibration files? I have a 722.6 from an SL600 so I am curious to know what can actually be controlled on this tranny. |

Because most vehicles shift at maximum firmness at wot from the factory. The line pressure can be controlled within the mechanical limitation of the system and thats it. We can't increase the pressure beyond what the factory system has. But we can lower it.

I see. On the 722.6 is line pressure increased by boring out the line pressure passage?
On a side note I am not sure if you received my email is it quicker to talk through here? |

The 722.6 has 2 solenoids for pressure control. One controls shift pressure the other controls clutch apply pressure. I'm not sure what would happen if you tried increasing the pressures. It would certainly change the shift solenoid timing.

Not that I know of. However it doesn't really matter what ECU you have with our controller.

Thanks Russ.
Anyone would like to share their experience with the 722.6 trans?
Cheers

| Bump to this...I am curious if there is a finalized 722.6 available for purchase? Also if there is a subharness wiring connector available for purchase. |

The 722.6 has been availble for some time. We can do the wiring harness for a standalone application. Since the range sensor is located on the shifter you'll have to make the range connections yourself.

| It is a stand alone application. I don't have the connectors that go to the transmission...I purchased it used and putting the tranny into a race car. Do you know where I could get the connectors to make a clean installation? |

Sorry, I missed your last question there. Its almost impossible to make it a 100% plug and play setup. You have to tap into throttle position, engine rpm, brake light, power and ground. The connections to the transmission are provided on our harness. Getting the range connector for the shifter your usng is the tough part. You most likely have to go to the dealer to get the connectors.

Yes the connections to the transmission are what I need. I am glad that is provided in your harness. I'm not worried about the connectors that go to the ECU since its not a stock ECU. Everything is stand alone. As far the the transmission range connector...I wonder if the dealer even sells these individually. Usually they try to make you purchase the whole harness. I'll go to a Chrysler dealer ship and check because I know Mercedes will be a PIA.
Are all 5spd 722.6 range connectors the same? Even the ones from 1998?
By the way this project is a Twin Turbo V12 and the 1997 SL600 722.6 5spd transmission. Im still trying to get the logistics all worked out. |
